Haven't really written anything on this blog since college! I was reflecting on my photography journey through out the years and suddenly realized that I used to have a photo blog back in the days. Dug up this account and decided to start adding more content that will hopefully be helpful to random fellow photographers on the internet :)
My interest in photography waned after I graduated from college in 2014 partially due to the busy med school days & first year of residency in 2018. However, for the past 2 years or so, I've slowly picked up photography again, upgraded some of my gears, and really delved back into film photography especially this past year in 2021. I've accumulated some new photos for the past 2 years that I will slowly start to share on this blog.
My GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) fully kicked in this past year, jumping straight into the bandwagon of film photography after abandoning it for almost 10 years. I've added a Mamiya 6, Pentax 67, Leica M3, and a Yashica 635 to my collection of cameras. Will start to share some reviews as I gain more time and experience with them.
The often mentioned benefit of film photography namely slowing down / being more deliberate when taking photos is definitely true. However, I think what drew me back to film photography is the element of surprise waiting for the developed final product as well as inherent imperfections of film. Instant gratifications of digital photography gets tiring & boring quickly. I've noticed that chasing technical sharpness, flawless color rendition, or a noiseless clean photo no longer interest me. A good thoughtful composition is the most important part of creating a good photograph. Although sometimes I do envy how much post-processing latitude there is from modern digital RAW files.
Happy Shooting Guys!
